Ewan McGregor Pushes for Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 – Will Disney Finally Listen?

Star Wars fans may have a reason to get excited again, as Ewan McGregor himself has expressed a strong desire to return to Disney+ as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ever since the limited series dropped in 2022, audiences have been wondering if the fan-favorite Jedi Master would get another chapter — and McGregor seems just as eager as the fans to make it happen.

The original series was a major event for the Star Wars community. Not only did it reunite McGregor with Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, but it also bridged the story gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Fans got a live-action glimpse of a young Luke Skywalker, intense lightsaber duels, and plenty of nostalgic callbacks. While some moments drew criticism — like the infamous Princess Leia chase sequence — the series still proved to be a massive streaming hit for Disney+.

Given that success, many have wondered why a second season never materialized. According to McGregor, he’s been more than willing to step back into the role, but the decision ultimately lies with Disney. Speaking at the 2025 Fan Expo in Chicago, McGregor opened up about his frustrations and hopes for the future.

“When Disney+ was preparing to launch, I thought Obi-Wan Kenobi was going to be their big debut,” McGregor told fans. “Then suddenly The Mandalorian appeared first. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great show, but I still believe there’s space for everyone in the galaxy. Come on Disney, give me Season 2 already. What are we waiting for?”

His comments instantly set social media buzzing. On Star Wars Holocron’s post covering the story, fans had plenty of opinions about what a second season could look like. Some suggested exploring Obi-Wan’s training with Qui-Gon Jinn to become a Force ghost, while others felt the character’s story should evolve in a more meaningful way rather than retreading familiar territory. Still, the excitement around McGregor’s enthusiasm was undeniable.

One fan wrote, “I’d love a second season, but it needs to feel different from the first.” Another added, “Yes — focus on Qui-Gon Jinn guiding him. That would be perfect.” Others noted that while Disney has revisited the same characters repeatedly, McGregor’s love for Obi-Wan makes him the exception. “Keep making it until he’s as old as Alec Guinness,” joked another user.

It’s worth noting that Hayden Christensen has already reprised his role in the Ahsoka series in 2023, which shows Disney still has an appetite for bringing back the prequel-era stars. However, with the mixed reception of some recent Star Wars projects, Disney may be taking a cautious approach before greenlighting another Obi-Wan story.

Upcoming titles like The Mandalorian & Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter will likely influence Disney’s decisions moving forward. If they perform well at the box office and on streaming, the chances of seeing McGregor return as the wise Jedi Knight will rise dramatically. For now, fans can only hope that Disney recognizes the demand and gives Obi-Wan one more adventure in the galaxy far, far away.

With Ewan McGregor openly campaigning for a second season, the ball is clearly in Disney’s court. The question is, will they give Star Wars fans what they’ve been waiting for — or will Obi-Wan’s story remain unfinished?
