Hideo Kojima Unveils First Trailer for Xbox Exclusive Horror Game OD: Knock

Legendary game creator Hideo Kojima has finally revealed the first trailer for his much-anticipated Xbox Game Studios project, OD, during the special livestream event Kojima Productions: Beyond the Strand. The game, now officially subtitled OD: Knock, immediately captured attention with its eerie tone and unsettling visuals.

The trailer introduced players to a chilling sequence featuring Sophia Lillis, best known for her role in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. She is joined by acclaimed actors Udo Kier and Hunter Schafer, making the project a star-studded collaboration. In the footage, Lillis’ character explores a dark, rain-soaked house, lighting candles in a desperate attempt to ward off an unknown presence.

Kojima explained on stage that the subtitle “Knock” is a direct nod to the game’s central theme. Throughout the trailer, a haunting knocking sound echoes, amplifying the fear factor. Kojima clarified that his version of fear differs from the approach filmmaker Jordan Peele is taking with his separate OD project. “There is a different kind of fear Jordan will create. Mine is the knock — the fear that lingers,” Kojima remarked, revealing his own unease with loud knocking sounds.

The Trailer’s Haunting Details

The opening of the trailer sets the mood right away. Lillis’ character uses a red card to unlock a mysterious red door, hinting at secrets tied to a tragic event from a decade earlier. A cryptic message on the card reads: “Light the fires to celebrate their [redacted].”

Inside the room, the atmosphere grows heavier. Rain hits the windows, while a chest filled with candles waits to be lit. Some of these candles even resemble the unsettling “bridge babies” from Death Stranding, adding to the unease. As Lillis’ character lights them, her fear becomes palpable. Suddenly, a door creaks open behind her, footsteps draw closer, and a strange Geiger counter-like noise builds in intensity. The trailer closes with a terrifying shot of a shadowy figure grabbing her by the head.

Xbox and Kojima Productions Collaboration

OD is being developed with the Unreal Engine, and Microsoft has confirmed its active role in supporting Kojima Productions with cutting-edge technology. Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, shared his excitement after the reveal, calling the project “bold, unique, and unmistakably Kojima.”

Spencer emphasized that development is progressing well, with Xbox engineers working alongside Kojima’s team to bring his ambitious vision to life. “We are deeply committed to helping realize Kojima-san’s ideas, not just with what players see on screen, but also through technical innovation behind the scenes,” he stated. “This game represents something new, something slightly sinister, and very much in line with Kojima’s creative legacy.”

How Scary Will OD Be?

Kojima didn’t shy away from teasing the extreme level of horror players can expect. Laughing on stage, he warned: “It’s really scary — you’ll probably do in your pants.” While his words drew laughter, they also reinforced the game’s focus on psychological terror and immersive fear.

More From Kojima Productions

Alongside the OD reveal, Kojima also provided updates on his other ventures. Fans got fresh details about the upcoming Death Stranding movie, as well as concept art and casting updates for the mysterious project Physint. It’s clear that Kojima Productions is entering a new era, blending blockbuster entertainment with experimental game design.

OD remains shrouded in mystery, but this first trailer proves that Hideo Kojima is once again pushing the boundaries of storytelling and fear in gaming. With a strong partnership from Xbox Game Studios and a cast of talented actors, OD: Knock is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about releases of the coming years.
